Noticing, Showing Up & Caring Enough to be Curious

Updated: Aug 7, 2024

I’ve been reminded in recent weeks of a few things.

👀 Noticing matters: My kids last night could sense a distracted mom. Instead of doing what most humans do and ignoring, each one gently helped me to be with them & focus. (I am really bad at Wii sports but doing it with a coaching kid is helpful 🙂).

‼️ Showing up, even when people don’t yet know what they need from you: When I was growing up, Nancy Drew was one of my most favorite book series. I’d go to my neighbor’s apartment (she had this crazy beach wall that I loved … probably why I love beach backgrounds on video calls) & pick a book to read. None of them have read it, but two of them sat with me as I read it to them this week. They just knew them being near would lighten my heart. They were right.

❤️ While as humans and leaders we can’t always fix things, we can be compassionate in our approach when we and others are struggling.

Last year I found (and read) Rasmus Hougaard, Jacqueline Carter & Marissa Afton’s book “Compassionate Leadership: How To Do Hard Things in a Human Way.” Their book is one I have on my “everyone should read, I’ll be using this book regularly” shelf & it is currently sitting on my desk.

⁉️ Who needs you to notice them today?

⁉️ Who can you show up for today?

⁉️ How can you bring kindness & wisdom to a situation in need of compassion today?
